From the years 500-1500 A.D., the country of Ireland had many rulers and High Kings. During this time, Ireland was involved in numerous conflicts between itself and also opposing countries. Eventually, Ireland fell to England, which ruled over them for many years.

High King Ruaidhri Ua Conchobair Ruaidhri was the ruler of the Kingdom of Connacht from 1156-1186, and he was the High King of Ireland from 1166-1183. Ruaidhri was the last High King of Ireland before the Norman Invasion took place. He was one of over twenty son of King Tairrdelbach Ua Conchobair. |
High King Brian Boru Brian Boru reigned over the Irish Kingdom of Munster from 978-1014. Soon after, he conquered the Kingdom of Leinster, and proclaimed himself as High King of Ireland and ruled from 1002-1014. Boru ended the domination of the High Kingship of Ireland by the Ui Neill and was the founder of the O'Brien Dynasty. |
High King Mael Sechnaill Mael Sechnaill was of the Clan Cholmain bloodline in southern Ui Neill. He reigned as King of Mide, and soon after became High King of Ireland, and ruled from 846-862. Mael Sechnaill is best remembered for his battles with the Viking invaders and for being violent, yet cowardly in battle. |
High King Flann Sinna Flann Sinna lived from 847-916. He was one of the sons of former High King of Ireland, Mael Sechnaill. Flann Sinna became the King of Mide from 877-916. He was also considered one of the High Kings of Ireland. Flann Sinna was a relatively successful king who was known for his exceptional propaganda. |
Gormflaith Ingen Murchada Gormflaith Ingen Murchada was born in Naas, a village in Kildare County, Ireland around 960. She was the daughter of Murchad mac Finn, the King of Leinster. She married Olaf Cuaran, the Viking King of Dublin until he died in the year 981. Later, she married Brian Boru, the King of Munster and High King of Ireland. Gormflaith Ingen Murchada was recorded to have died around the year 1030. |
